DC Comics is launching a new Batman and the Outsiders series which will be written by Bryan Edward Hill (Detective Comics) and artist Dexter Soy (Red Hood and the Outsiders). Cover art is done by Tyler Kirkham and Arif Prianto. After spinning out of the Hill’s current run on Detective Comics and will star the superheroes like Signal, Orphan, Suicide Squad member Katana and Black Lightning. The series is expected to release at the end of this year.
Speculation about a new Outsiders series was running wild since the announcement of Hill’s On the Outside was made. On The Outside ran through Detective Comics #983-987. Its story focuses on Batman who recruits Black Lightning to help him train some of his younger allies like Orphan and Signal while also battling the new villain, Karma.
“All I’ll say is, it is a team book with Batman in it, but the safety is off,” Hill told The Washington Post. “Hopefully it will be surprising and thrilling in ways that I don’t think people will quite expect. I’m becoming known a bit for a certain kind of intensity in my work and I think this Outsiders project will also continue on in that pathway.”
The release date for Batman and the Outsiders haven’t been announced yet, but it shouldn’t be too long until there’s news and furthermore details about the series’ plot. What’s known is that DC and senior editor Chris Conroy confirmed the news by tweeting on their Twitter accounts that the series will debut in December.
