Playmobil: The Movie will see Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out), Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), comic-turned-actor Jim Gaffigan (Chappaquiddick) and singers Meghan Trainor and Adam Lambert joining the project. The feature will be a mix of live-action and CGI.
Directed by Disney veteran Lino DiSalvo and screenplay penned by Blaise Hemingway, Greg Erb and Jason Oremland, the feature is produced by Aton Soumache, Dimitri Rassam, Emmanuel Jacomet, Alexis Vonarb and Moritz Borman, all of whom worked on Mark Osborne’s The Little Prince. The animation is produced by ON Entertainment (The Little Prince, Mune, Tall Tales from the Magical Garden of Antoon Krings).
The film follows the adventures of siblings Charlie (Bateman) and Marla (Taylor-Joy). When the former unexpectedly disappears into the animated universe of Playmobil, Marla goes on a quest to bring him home and teams up with some unlikely new friends during the adventures. She meets food truck driver Del (Gaffigan), secret agent Rex Dasher (Radcliffe), misfit robot and fairy-godmother (Trainor). Lambert will voice the character of villain Emperor Maximus.
Lionsgate will handle the world sales and the feature will be released by Studiocanal in the U.K., Tele München Group in Germany, Pathe in France, and DMG Entertainment in China. The feature Playmobil: The Movie is set for a 2019 release.
