Crunchyroll is bringing the big guns, and plenty of anime magic to New York Comic Con this October. From major announcements and world-premiere trailers to talent appearances, screenings and a little Black Clover comeback, the anime streamer has packed its NYCC schedule with enough fan service to keep the crowds busy.
Running from 8-11 October, the programme promises a mix of new reveals, behind-the-scenes stories and early looks at some of the season’s most anticipated titles.
Kicking things off, the Crunchyroll showcase will take place on Thursday, 8 October at 3:30 pm. The session will tease what lies ahead for anime fandom, with newly announced series, sneak peeks, world-premiere trailers and other reveals.
On Friday, 9 October, fans can get under the skin of The Apothecary Diaries at 12:15 pm. Japanese voice actors Aoi Yuki, who voices Maomao, and Takeo Otsuka, who plays Jinshi, will recreate fan-favourite scenes and discuss bringing the hit series to life.
Then there is Black Clover, back in action after an almost five-year hiatus. The Black Clover Season Two special screening lands on Saturday, 10 October at 12:45 pm on the Empire Stage. Japanese voice actor Gakuto Kajiwara and English voice actor Dallas Reid, both voicing Asta, will share behind-the-scenes stories and take part in a live dub session.
Meanwhile, breakout dark-fantasy title Sentenced to Be a Hero gets its turn in the spotlight on Friday at 6:30 pm. Original author Rocket Shokai, illustrator Mephisto, and Japanese voice actors Yohei Azakami (Xylo) and Mayu Iizuka (Teoritta) will unpack the journey from page to screen. It is a suitably criminally good line-up.
Black Torch is also bringing the heat. The summer hit heads to the Empire Stage on Sunday, 11 October at noon, where English voice actors AJ Beckles (Jiro Azuma) and Keith Silverstein (Rago) will revisit the series’ action, comedy and standout moments.
And there is plenty more where that came from. The weekend’s screening slate includes early episodes and first looks at upcoming titles, including Dengeki Daisy (episode one), Firefly Wedding (episode one), Shangri-La Frontier season three (episodes one and two), Crunchyroll Presents: Upcoming Anime Premieres, and Here U Are (episodes one and two).
More surprises are in store before the convention kicks off.
