The 20th Critics’ Choice Movie Awards took place last night at the Hollywood Palladium, ironically even the Academy Awards nominations were revealed last night.
The big winners were Birdman and Boyhood from the live action category; picking up seven and four awards respectively. While ‘Birdman’ picked up the trophies for Best Actor, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor in a Comedy, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. ‘Boyhood’ took home top honours for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Young Actor/Actress.
The award for the ‘Best Animated Feature’ went to the Lego Movie, which has for some reason or the other lost out on being recognised, only getting a nomination at the Golden Globes and not even making the cut at this year’s Oscars.
The award for ‘Best Visual Effects’ went to the Andy Serkis starrer Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It is the eighth theatrical film in the franchise. The film was released in United States and Canada on 11 July, 2014 and was met with critical acclaim, with critics praising its visual effects, story, direction, acting and emotional depth. It was also a box office hit, having grossed over $708 million worldwide.
Talk show host, NFL Hall of Famer and Magic Mike XXL actor Michael Strahan hosted the event, which aired live on A&E and took place on Oscar nominations night for the third consecutive year.
