Coloco Group brings 100-plus broadcast and cinema brands under one roof

At A.B.I.S (India’s Broadcasting and Infotainment Show), Coloco Group also known as Colo Color owner Pinkal Rambhia shared the group’s broadcast business, brand portfolio and expansion plans with AnimationXpress. With seven companies and a workforce of nearly 1,300 people, the group is currently strengthening its business-to-business (B2B) presence in the broadcast and cinema segments through the key B2B broadcast and cinema solutions division of the Coloco Group, QuantmPic.

Coloco’s journey began in 1981 with printing and photo labs before expanding into distribution, trading, manufacturing and online businesses. Its broadcast and cinema division now works with more than 100 brands, bringing equipment and solutions to professionals across the industry.

“We have got more than 100 brands in distribution,” Rambhia said, outlining the scale of the group’s current operations.

A portfolio in focus

QuantmPic is the group’s key B2B business for broadcast and cinema users. Its portfolio spans dry cabinets, lighting and other professional production equipment. Coloco is the national distributor for RMI in the dry cabinet segment and NiceFoto, a globally recognised manufacturer of professional studio photography and video lighting equipment. It also distributes with brands in the film and video production industry Atomos, Teradek and SmallHD, while serving as Sony’s largest distributor in the western region, particularly Mumbai.

Working with several leading international brands has been central to the group’s growth. Rambhia noted that many of its principal partners are Japanese companies, adding that the experience of working with established players has been positive.

Expanding with the technology curve

Coloco plans to keep adding brands and products as the broadcast and cinema landscape evolves. Rather than limiting its portfolio to a fixed set of offerings, the group is looking to identify emerging technologies and build relationships with international brands.

“Whatever new technology and brands come, we keep on expanding,” Rambhia said. He added that international brands increasingly approach the group after seeing its performance and receiving feedback from its existing partners. “In the close association, we keep on expanding and exploring new products,” he expressed.

A distributor’s view of the AI shift

As artificial intelligence reshapes workflows across media and entertainment, Coloco’s position in the value chain is somewhat different from that of production houses and VFX studios. The group is focused on supplying products rather than creating content, which means its approach to AI is centred on bringing relevant new technologies into its distribution portfolio.

“We are basically the distributor. And you can say we are giving products,” Rambhia explained. “So, we are not into production or VFX or something like that. So, for us, anything new technology, new products, we just have to add it.”

He acknowledged that some major segments, including VFX, had experienced cuts, but maintained that the arrival of new technologies continued to create opportunities for distributors.

For Coloco, staying ahead is less about predicting the next production revolution and more about having the right equipment ready when the industry asks for it. With more than 100 brands in its portfolio and an eye on emerging technologies, the group is keeping its distribution business geared for whatever comes next.
