When it comes to ‘Dragons’ instantly we are reminded of the Chinese culture as China seems to be the land of dragons. Now an animated feature is set to release from China called Where’s the Dragon? A CG 3D animated feature film, Where’s the Dragon? is filled with spellbound adventure that will rope the audience into the mysterious journey throughout the film. The film is set to premiere in Beijing on 14 October, 2015 followed by a nationwide release beginning on 23 October.
Chinese studios have ventured new heights in their effort to produce effective top-quality feature films using extensive CG animated film. Written and directed by the visual effects mastermind, Sing Choong Foo, the film has brought to life the legendary Zodiac characters from Chinese folk culture. The mastermind has also worked on visual effects for Hollywood hits like Spider Man, Spider Man 2, Men in Black and Beowulf and bagged the Golden Horse Award too for Best Visual Effects for the film Silk.
Co-directed by Betty Tang, the film reveals the story of a young girl named Zhen who is on her search to find the Dragon who is missing from the Chinese Zodiac. As the name of the film itself coveys- Where’s the Dragon?, the quest for the lost dragon leads the girl to meet a pig, a sheep and a horse as she strives to restore harmony on earth and in her own home. The shots of the massive dragon sparking out fire while hovering up high in the sky and the girl clinging onto it for a smashing flight will take you straight into the film.
The film is produced by the DeTao Group and Treasure Tree Studios alongside Hong Kong-based Where’s The Dragon and Colour Engineering. Distributed in China by SMI Movie Distribution Company, the voice cast includes Ziyi Zhang, LeeHom Wang, Michael Wang, Fish Leong and Leon Dai. Hong Kong-based Distribution Workshop has picked up international rights to the animated feature.
Focusing on portraying the essence of relationships with family and friends, Where’s the Dragon? aims to create an emotional mark on its viewers. The high quality CG animation coupled with creative techniques of the efficient director can definitely impress you with its charm. After all, with works like Kuiba in the past and Kung Fu Panda 3 coming up next year, Chinese animation seems to marvel the world with its unique work and here is one more effort from the ‘Land of Dragons’.
