The superheroine in burka, Burka Avenger who has won hearts not just in Pakistan but also in India and Afghanistan has now got her own merchandise line that includes not just T-shirts, watches but also Burka Avenger action figure. this is probably the first time in history of Pakistan that a locally produced TV character will be getting its own merchandise line.
The eye catching high quality T-shirts, featuring cool poses of fan favorite characters are manufactured by Leisure Club and apart from tees, other products in the merchandise line include a Baba Bandook action figure, projector watches, and many more items such as diaries, mugs, and caps. And, for every Burka Avenger action figure sold, Pakistan Rs 100 ($1) will be donated to The Citizens Foundation to help educate Pakistan.
When asked for the reason behind releasing Burka Avenger merchandise, the creator of Burka Avenger, Haroon said, “Unicorn Black received a number of emails from parents requesting Burka Avenger T shirts and merchandise for their kids and then people posted pictures of Burka Avenger themed Birthday parties on our FB page which really showed their love for the show. We wanted to give something back to the fans as well as help raise funds for education in Pakistan.”
A representative of The Citizens Foundation said “TCF remains committed to the cause of education. It is a movement that needs ardent supporters like Burka Avenger because only education can pave way for a brighter and progressive Pakistan. As more and more supporters join us, each one marks a victory of education over illiteracy and deprivation.”
Burka Avenger is Pakistan’s first ever full length animated TV series developed by Unicorn Black Islamabad, Pakistan which was launched back in 2013. This multi-award winning show features Jiya as the inspirational school teacher and her alter ego, the super-heroine ‘Burka Avenger’. Her use of books and pens as projectile weapons is symbolic on many levels. Burka Avenger fights for Justice, Peace and Education for all.
Burka Avenger Season 4 has also been launched this week. Creator and Director of the TV series Haroon said: “The production quality and storytelling is the best so far. Burka Avenger continues to push boundaries further this season by tackling socially relevant issues such as sectarian violence, stealing is wrong, struggling for peace and having the courage to fight for your rights.” Other themes addressed in previous seasons for which the show has received particular praise for include women empowerment, importance of polio vaccinations and even a tribute to the victims of the Peshawar school massacre in the form of an episode highlighting the way gangs use propaganda and false information to lure the youth for their nefarious means.
While Season 4 of Burka Avenger is on air in Pakistan, India will get to watch the Season 3 on ZeeQ of the series in India at the start of 2016.
