Legendary martial artist, Bruce Lee is all set to re-live the 21st century, but in the comic pages of a newly announced comic series based on him, Bruce Lee: The Dragon Rises. Ideated by the martial artist’s daughter Shannon Lee along with writer Jeff Kline and artist Brandon McKinney, the comic is produced by Bruce Lee Entertainment and Darby Pop Publishing.
As per the official press release, Bruce Lee: The Dragon Rises will chronicle the return of a Bruce Lee who never died and hasn’t aged but has no idea of who he is, what’s happened in the world in the past 40 plus years, or why so many “thugs” want a piece of him.
The late martial artist, apart from founding the martial artist style ‘Jeet Kune Do’ has influenced innumerous lives as martial artist instructor, film-actor, film-maker and philosopher and untimely passed away in 1973 at the age of 32.
After over 40 plus years, the martial artist is all set to walk again in a comic version of himself in what is reportedly a 48 pages first issue that arrives on stores and online in April 2016.
The first issue will also see Bruce Lee aided by an old friend from the ‘70s Joe Toomey, and a pair of precocious Teenagers. The crux of the comic would have Bruce piecing together a mystery more insidious than ever imagined with battling enigmatic villains along with his very own conscience.
For writer Jeff Kline, his association with bringing martial artists into the comic world isn’t new for in the early 2000s, he co-produced the series Jackie Chan Adventures which had the Kung fu martial artist, Jackie Chan animated.
Darby Pop Publishing and Bruce Lee Entertainment are going all out in promoting the comic series. They will be hosting a special cover signing event at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo 2015 on Saturday, 31 October with Shannon Lee, artist Brandon McKinney and cover artist Bernard Chang.
Also throughout the convention weekend, Darby Pop Publishing will be giving away both Bruce Lee-related and other freebies including tattoos, stickers, bookmarks, and more.
