Comic Con India announced the winner of its initiative ‘Indian Championships of Cosplay’ (ICC). Nabil Khan from Bengaluru is the lucky cosplayer who won the championship for his cosplay as Dr. Otto Octavius.
This was initiated to encourage local cosplayers to go professional and provide them with an International platform as well. Nabil as the winner will now head to the Annual Championship of Cosplay at Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo to represent the country which will be held from 18 to 20 March.
Nabil will have the opportunity to enter directly into the championship round of Annual crown championship of Cosplay, the most prestigious cosplay competition in the world. Indian Championships of Cosplay, winner, Nabil Khan said, “I am ecstatic and backflipping everywhere, as I never thought this could happen. Thank you so much Comic Con India for making my dreams come true!”
The winner was chosen from the 10 cosplayers selected from different cities through a voting system and Comic Con says that the contest received around 20000 votes. The winner was determined based on the overall efforts put in the costumes by every contestant and voting by fans for every competent. The videos on the ComicCon India website have made a lot of people aware as to how the cosplayers prepare their costumes and the hardwork that goes into making them.
“With close to 20,000 votes, our first ever Indian Championship of Cosplay was a great success, here’s wishing Nabil the very best for the ultimate finals at the Crown Championships in Chicago! We plan to expand the reach of our national cosplay championship in the coming year and grow the cosplay eco-system in the country,” said Comic Con India, founder, Jatin Varma.
