New trailer of ‘Back 4 Blood’ features deckbuilding as a way to decimate zombies

Warner Bros. Games and Turtle Rock Studios have dished out a new Back 4 Blood trailer, giving an in-depth look at the game’s innovative Card System, a new rogue-lite feature that notches up the experience with each playthrough, making sure every gameplay session is powerful and unique.

Players can jump right into the action by choosing a pre-made default deck or select the Card System’s broad customisation options to create their own fully personalised deck of cards.

Back 4 Blood uses adaptive A.I. known as the Game Director, which works behind-the-scenes monitoring the actions, health, and choices of players. It responds accordingly by changing environmental conditions, adding obstacles, and unleashing special Ridden mutations through Card System modifiers known as Corruption Cards. Players can alter the gameplay by making use of specific cards to strategise against the Game Director, from amplifying equipment to reloading weapons, as they take on hordes of enemies in their path.

The card system is indeed a quirky way to mix things up. It is claimed that the mechanic will provide extensive replayability for the game, but we’ll have to wait and see just how much of a game-changer it is.

Back 4 Blood will be available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC on 12 October 2021. Players can register now on their website for their chance to participate in upcoming hands-on tests.
