Thunderbird Entertainment’s Atomic Cartoons has obtained the rights to a children’s book series to produce an animated TV show that will be executive produced by movie star Drew Barrymore. The animated TV series is based on the New York Times bestselling book series Princesses Wear Pants, written by Today Show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and Allison Oppenheim.
Thunderbird CEO Jennifer McCarron and Matthew Berkowitz will executive-produce on behalf of Atomic Cartoons. Princesses Wear Pants is about Princess Penelope Pineapple and her friends, and encourages children to be brave, ambitious and unafraid to make a difference in the world.
“As a mother, I am proud that Atomic has the opportunity to produce this series to further share Penelope’s empowering message – that you can be pink and sparkly, but also a strong leader who gets things done,” McCarron told media.
The lead book in the series was published in September 2017 by Abrams Books, followed by sequel Princesses Save the World this month. Atomic’s credits include Emmy-winning series Beat Bugs, The Last Kids on Earth for Netflix, and the upcoming Disney series 101 Dalmatian Street.
