Fairy tales are getting a fresh twist and the Grimm sisters are back to clean up the mess. Apple TV+ has unveiled a first look at the second season of The Sisters Grimm, with the animated adventure series set to premiere globally on 2 October.
Based on Michael Buckley’s New York Times bestselling book series, The Sisters Grimm follows sleuthing sisters Sabrina and Daphne Grimm, descendants of the Brothers Grimm, as they navigate a world where fairy tales are not just bedtime stories but very real and occasionally troublesome neighbours.
The first season proved to be no fairy-tale flop, earning a 100 per cent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Season two picks up a year after the sisters’ parents mysteriously disappear. Still determined to uncover the truth, Sabrina and Daphne continue to unravel the secrets of Ferryport Landing, where magical creatures, familiar fairy-tale characters and new mysteries lurk around every corner.
The voice cast returns with Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Sabrina, Leah Newman as Daphne, Laraine Newman (Saturday Night Live) as Relda, Abubakar Salim (Raised by Wolves) as Charming, Billy Harris (Ted Lasso) as Puck and Harry Trevaldwyn (How to Train Your Dragon) as Mirror.
The series is developed by Amy Higgins, Emmy Award nominee and former Star vs. the Forces of Evil talent, who serves as showrunner alongside Emmy Award nominee Erica Rothschild (Sofia the First). Animation is done by Emmy Award-winning studio Titmouse, whose credits include Duck & Goose, Harriet the Spy and Frog and Toad.
The six-episode second season is executive produced by Higgins, Buckley, Emmy Award winner Elliot Blake (ReVisioned: Tomb Raider), Emmy Award winner Philip Alberstat (The Incredible Mrs. Ritchie), Steven Amato (27 Mins) and Theresa Park (Roar, Expats). Titmouse’s Chris Prynoski (The Legend of Vox Machina), Shannon Prynoski (Scavengers Reign), Ben Kalina (Big Mouth) and Antonio Canobbio (Digman!) also serve as executive producers, with Sage Cotugno as supervising director.
With a pair of sharp-witted sisters, a town packed with fairy-tale trouble and a second season ready to turn the magic dial up, The Sisters Grimm looks set to prove that happily ever after can wait. The Grimm game is on.
