Anime India, the country’s biggest celebration of anime and Japanese pop culture, is set to take place in Hyderabad on 14 and 15 November 2026, bringing together anime enthusiasts, cosplayers, gamers and fans of Japanese entertainment for two days of activities and live experiences. Presented by AnimationXpress, the event will welcome Noriyuki Abe, the legendary director of the Bleach anime series and its feature films, including Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion.
Abe will meet Indian fans in person and participate in a special session exploring the creative process behind one of anime’s most iconic franchises. The session will offer fans insights into the stories, production experiences and creative decisions that shaped Ichigo’s journey on screen. For Indian viewers who grew up watching Bleach, the appearance presents a rare opportunity to hear directly from the director behind the popular series.

Cosplay, gaming and Anime screenings among key attractions
Beyond the special session with Abe, Anime India Hyderabad will feature a packed programme spanning cosplay, gaming, competitions, film screenings and live entertainment.
The cosplay competition will be one of the festival’s major attractions, with India’s top cosplayers competing for a prize pool of over Rs 3,00,000. Gaming enthusiasts can participate in the Versus Japanese Gaming Arena, featuring Japanese fighting and arcade titles, as well as a Free Fire tournament where squads will compete for victory.
The event will also host anime quiz competitions covering classic and contemporary series, a special Baahubali competition celebrating Hyderabad’s homegrown epic, and a Beyblade competition featuring head-to-head battles.
Anime fans can explore authentic, licensed merchandise from official partners. The entertainment programme will also include an Anime concert featuring live performances of popular anime songs, followed by an Anime DJ Party where attendees can enjoy their favourite anime anthems.

Hyderabad’s Anime community
Anime India co-founder Neha Mehta said the Hyderabad edition has been designed to cater to different sections of the anime and gaming community.
“We have designed Anime India Hyderabad so there is something for every kind of fan. Cosplayers can compete for a prize pool of over Rs 3 lakh, gamers can battle it out in the Versus Japanese Gaming Arena and the Free Fire tournament, and everyone can end the day at the Anime Concert and DJ party. We can’t wait to see Hyderabad turn up in full costume,” she said.
Anime India co-founder Mishaal Wanvari highlighted the city’s passionate anime community and the significance of bringing a renowned Japanese anime creator to Indian fans. “Hyderabad has one of the most passionate anime communities in the country, and they deserve a festival built for them. Bringing the director of Bleach to the city is a dream for us and for every fan who grew up watching Ichigo.
