To honour the names behind the amazing animated content that is being produced, and from the overwhelming response and reach of previous editions of Ann Awards, the third edition of Animation Xpress’ Ann Awards is again back on-ground. It is India’s premium full scale animation awards that intends on bringing recognition and setting a bar for the Indian animation industry and all its aspects.
There are some animation professionals who have set benchmarks and have spent their lives contributing to the industry in a major way. We believe that they need recognition for their efforts. Hence, this year, AnimationXpress in association with Graphiti Multimedia are instituting the ‘Ram Mohan Award For Excellence in Animation’. This award will have all the values that the father of Indian animation – Late Padma Shri Ram Mohan – stood for.
“Ram Mohan Sir is an iconic figure. He is not just a legendary artist and mentor but he is an institution. He has groomed so many skilled artists who in turn have spawned the Indian Animation Industry as we know it today. He created so many characters that we still watch, love and adore. Many artists leave behind an inspiring body of work but few leave behind a vibrant and thriving industry that today employs lakhs of artists. Such is his legacy,” said Graphiti Multimedia founder; FICCI AVGC Forum co-chairman & MESC advisory board member Munjal B. Shroff.
He further mentioned, “Graphiti is proud to institute the Ram Mohan Award for Excellence in partnership with Animation Xpress to celebrate his life and legacy. The award will be given each year to honour and recognise exceptional individuals who have contributed substantially to our Industry.”
Also, to honour the creative genius and champion of the Indian animation industry, the late Arnab Chaudhuri, AnimationXpress with Ashima Avasthi’s help had introduced a new award category named ‘The Arnab Chaudhuri Director’s Award’ last year which is being continued this year as well. The categories are Arnab Chaudhuri ACE Professional Award and The Arnab Chaudhuri Young ACE Award.
The jury who helped decide the winners of this special award category are IDC school of Design, IIT Bombay adjunct professor and Srishti Manipal Institute of Art Design and Technology Immersive Learning chair Nina Sabnani; The Walt Disney Company Animation, Media Networks Europe & Africa Original Programming VP Orion Ross; MG University St Joseph’s College of Communication academic chairman Prakash Moorthy; filmmaker, animator & part time animation lecturer UCLAN Pete Bishop, On Air Promos Sdn Bhd creative director Rob Middleton; Zee Studios Originals VP and content head Ashima Avasthi and AnimationXpress.com founder Anil Wanvari.
As for Ann Awards, while the first edition had 33 categories, the event organisers have added more categories during the second edition, giving every possible sector associated with the animation industry a chance to shine in the spotlight it deserves. The third edition has eight main categories with 67 sub categories.
