Founder and former head of Android Andy Rubin, is parting ways with Google to start an incubator for hardware start-ups. One of the most used mobileOs, Android now has more than a billion users connected through various mobile phone manufacturers.
“I want to wish Andy all the best with what’s next. With Android he created something truly remarkable – with a billion plus happy users. Thank you”, said Google CEO Larry Page.
The move shouldn’t distress Google or Android as Rubin already left the mobile division in 2013 and handed over the reins to Sundar Pichai, who now heads almost all of the Google products and is rumored to be the next in line to be the CEO.
Google now for one and a half year has been running a secretive robotics division which was headed by Rubin. Google had acquired a number of high-profile robotics companies but did not tell what the division was up to.
James Kuffner who previously worked on robotics arm under Rubin, will now head the department.
