AMC to air the comic turned TV series ‘Preacher’

The channel that airs shows like The Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels, Fear the Walking Dead will soon be seen airing the comic based TV series Preacher. After a successful pilot, Seth Rogen has confirmed that AMC have given the go-ahead for a 10-episode series of Preacher. Posting what appeared to be key art for the show, he tweeted, “Preacher is coming to AMC. The beginning is nigh!!!”.

The series is adapted from the same named comic ‘Preacher’ which was a cult hit in the 1990s in a long-running Vertigo (an imprint of DC Comics) series from writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon.The series revolves around Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town, who merges with a powerful creature that has escaped from heaven. Along with his ex-gal, Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God.

Co-starring are Ian Colletti as Eugene Root aka Arseface, W. Earl Brown as Hugo Root and Lucy Griffiths as Emily. Preacher was developed for television by Rogen and Goldberg, who directed the pilot, and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad), who wrote the script and will serve as showrunner. They executive produce through their Point Grey banner, along with the company’s James Weaver. Also executive producing are Catlin, Original Film’s Neal Moritz, Vivian Cannon and Ori Marmur as well as Ken Levin and Jason Netter. Ennis and Dillon co-executive produce.

With series like Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Gotham that are also comic adaptations, it’s going to be a back-breaking competition to stay on the top of them all. The 10, hour long episodes of Preacher are expected to premiere in mid-2016.
