Aliens are back, after very very long. Seven years, to be precise.
While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonisers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. Get ready for Alien: Romulus, the sci-fi/horror-thriller which takes the phenomenally successful Alien franchise back to its roots. 20th Century Studios has released a chilling teaser trailer of the film.
From Fede Alvarez, the director of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe, Alien: Romulus is produced by Ridley Scott, who directed the original Alien (1979), and produced and directed the prequel series films Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017). The VFX supervisor on Alien: Romulus is Eric Barba, who has to his credit films like Oblivion, Tron: Legacy and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
The film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), Aileen Wu.
Alvarez has directed the film, from a screenplay he wrote with frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues (Don’t Breathe 2), based on characters created by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Michael Pruss (Boston Strangler), and Walter Hill (Alien) serve as producers along with Scott, with Alvarez, Elizabeth Cantillon (Charlie’s Angels), Brent O’Connor (Bullet Train), and Tom Moran (Unstoppable) serving as executive producers.
Alien: Romulus opens in theatres worldwide on 16 August 2024, and in India on 15 August. The franchise’s previous films (in order) include: Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), Alien Resurrection (1997), Prometheus (2012) and Alien: Covenant (2017).
