Action-packed ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ trailer gives a detailed look at the sci-fi world flaunting heavy visual effects

The trailer of the much-awaited science fiction film Kalki 2898 AD is finally out. Setting the tone for a marvellous cinematic experience, the trailer shows a futuristic world ruled by dark forces where the protagonist supported by important characters, is seen gearing up to save the world.

The story draws inspiration from Hindu mythology which believes that Kalki is the 10th and last avatar of Lord Vishnu who will appear at the end of Kali Yug (age of darkness). With an ensemble cast boasting names like Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Keerthy Suresh, expectations soar sky-high.

The trailer, spanning nearly three minutes, showcases state-of-the-art visual effects, bringing to life electrifying action sequences and intricately crafted environments. Spearheaded by DNEG and supported by other renowned studios like StealthWorks Taiwan, Folks VFX, Lola VFX, The Embassy VFX, Pixstone Images, and Labyrinth, the film promises a visual spectacle of epic proportions.

Makers seem to have left no stone unturned to create a mythological universe that would appeal to the global audience. However, it has garnered a mixed response from netizens. While some eagerly anticipate this “cinematic masterpiece”, others draw comparisons to iconic sagas like Dune and Star Wars. The efforts seem to be promising, managing to create the right amount of hype. Only time will tell if the storyline and performances are gripping enough to do justice to this Rs 600 crore high-budget extravaganza.

The film earlier helmed as Project K is directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by esteemed Vyjayanthi Movies. Ashwin’s vision extends beyond the silver screen, as evidenced by the animated series Bujji And Bhairava, serving as a prelude to the film. Streaming on Prime Video, the mini-series delves into the bond between Bhairava (played by Prabhas), and Bujji, the futuristic vehicle voiced by Keerthy Suresh.

Kalki 2898 AD is set to hit the theatres on 27 June 2024.
