The British Animation Awards, which honours the remarkable work in British animation across a variety of platforms, has announced its finalists. Celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year, the British Animation Awards ceremony will be held at London BFI Southbank on 10 March 2016.
Among the finalists announced, Aardman Animation’s Shaun the Sheep: The Movie will compete against Magic Light Pictures’s Stick Man and Fettle Animation’s BBC Learning film Children of the Holocaust in the Best Long Form Animation category.
Martin Freeman, Chris O’Dowd and William Vanderpuye have been nominated for Best voice performance in Stick Man, Puffin Rock and Rastamouse respectively.
While in the Best Children’s series, The Amazing World Of Gumball:The Shell, Scream Street: Resus Rocks and Rastamouse: School Of Rock will compete with each other to win the honour.
Apart from these, the other categories include Best pre-school series, Best music video, Best commissioned animation: promotional, Best commissioned animation: documentary, Best animation in a commercial, Best short film, Best film/TV graphics, Best use of sound, Best student film: undergraduate and postgraduate.
BAA, director, Jayne Pilling said, “We’ve had some fantastic winners over the years but the calibre of this year’s finalists prove that the animation industry is in better health than ever!” Also, the public can join in and vote in some of the categories including favourite short film and music video.
The British Animation awards this year too witnesses some splendid work in the animation industry which deserves due recognition and appreciation. So, along with the major awards like Oscars and BAFTA, the BAA too has secured its place to appreciate and encourage new talent in the animation space.
