The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for the biggest clash of its titans ever! ‘Captain America: Civil War’ is upon us and the very first trailer has just hit online.
Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
The trailer commences with Steve Rogers (Captain America) walking into the room where Bucky (Winter Soldier) is held captive, and exchanging a few pleasantries before glimpses of Bucky escaping are seen… What ensues is heavy drama and political bashing of the Avengers’ leader before the looming Civil War!
The Avengers are ordered to stop carrying out any further operations as the higher government authorities believe that the superhumans have for long been using their powers without any supervision, which has led to loss of property and more importantly human lives.
The Avengers are now having to choose sides, with Iron Man leading a team to work for the government while Captain America leads the team of ‘rebels’. As per the trailer it can be seen that Black Panther has chosen to be on Iron Man’s side along with Black Widow and War Machine; whereas Winter Soldier, Falcon, Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye are fighting by the Cap’s side.
And yes, there is a spoiler in the trailer! Brace yourself… War Machine meets his maker in this presentation after Quicksilver’s demise in Age of Ultron.
Captain America: Civil War, is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the thirteenth feature presentation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and features an ensemble cast featuring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, Tom Holland, William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.
The stunning visual effects for the movie is being supervised by Huseyin Caner, with the lead visual effect studio being Industrial Light & Magic, working alongside studios like BaseFX, Method Studios and Legacy Effects among others.
Development of Captain America: Civil War commenced in late 2013 when Markus and McFeely began writing the screenplay, which borrows concepts from the 2006 comic book limited series Civil War by Mark Millar. The Russo brothers were brought back on board in early 2014 after positive reactions to test screenings of The Winter Soldier. Based on a 2006 crossover story from Marvel Comics, which pitted Captain America against Iron Man in a conflict where the larger question was how much freedom Marvel’s superheroes should be expected to give up for national security.
In the comics, the story concluded with Captain America in custody, and the next Captain America story arc started with his assassination on the way to his trial, let’s see what the Marvel Cinematic Universe is planning for our Captain in the movie…
