Marvel fans have a reason to go bonkers with the comic giant’s recent revelation of penning a crossover series blending two of its immensely popular multi-superhero war sagas namely Secret Wars (1984) and Civil War (2007). While it’s official that Secret Wars will meet Civil War and the new off spring will be created Charles Soule and Leinil Yu, Soule has also confirmed the series setting the premise of the upcoming Marvel’s Captain America-Civil War starring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. reprising their popular Avenger roles of Captain America and Iron Man respectively.
Marvel Studios’ has officially revealed the upcoming tent pole’s plot which follows the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The collective governments of the world pass the Superhero Registration Act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This creates a rift between the Avengers, splitting the various Marvel superheroes to side with either Iron Man or Captain America, causing an epic battle between former allies. So the super-soldier will be taking on the genius, play boy on the big screen on 6 May 2016.
As Marvel has always had a forward looking approach to build a platform for its cinematic universe, one can also evidently witness glimpses of a difference of opinions between the two superheroes in the previous Avengers. Even the latest Avengers’ TV spot teases us with Tony Stark’s sarcasm for his team lead, Captain America, where he addresses the Cap as the ‘Boss’ even though he immodestly boasts the fact that he pays for everything, designs everything and makes them all look good.
In an interview with CNN, Soule who will be tackling the new Civil War series stated that Secret Wars is an opportunity to revisit some of the great Marvel stories of the past. The idea is to take some of the events in the original storyline and spin them off into entirely new stories. One of those is Civil War and I got the call to work on that. Civil War happened in 2006 and 2007, and in that story Captain America and Iron Man went after each other due to an ideological difference on superheroes in the world. What I’m doing is taking that story in a different direction.”
Charles Soule has gained popularity for his works on Superman/Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, The Death of Wolverine, She-Hulk and more.
