The Golden Globe awards ceremony got underway in Beverly Hills on 11 January 2015. It is also the first major ceremony in the awards calendar.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 took home the top honour for ‘Best Animated Feature Film’ among competitors Big Hero Six, The Book of Life, Boxtrolls and The Lego Movie. The win for the Fox produced feature was a rare win, considering it wasn’t just a very commercial film but also a sequel, neither of which are commonly rewarded.
The thrilling second chapter of the epic “How to Train Your Dragon” trilogy brought back the fantastical world of Hiccup and Toothless five years later. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest of the gang were challenging each other to dragon races, the now inseparable pair journey through the skies, charting unmapped territories and exploring new worlds. When one of their adventures leads to the discovery of a secret ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.
But, the win hasn’t gone down well with a lot of fans of The Lego Movie. There have been many discussions and arguments doing the rounds on social media as to how can a sequel to a movie (which is no where close to a Toy Story) knock out The Lego Movie.
If you’re surprised that the ‘Best Animated Motion Picture’ category is the one causing the most uproar, you obviously haven’t seen The Lego Movie. From the all-star voice cast to the relatable storylines to the heartbreaking twist, the animated film exceeded all expectations to become one of the most entertaining films of the year.
