Fox sets release dates for two untitled Marvel movies; Gambit being pulled off from its October 2016 release

2015 has been a year of hits and misses for 20th Century Fox where on one side The Revenant bagged three awards at the Academy Awards and on the other side Fantastic Four won three Golden Raspberry Awards. After the failure of Fantastic Four, there have been rumours whether Fox will continue to hold rights of the same which have been laid to rest as Fox had confirmed they won’t let go of Marvel’s first family. With X-Men being the only successfully franchise for 20th Century Fox from the Marvel universe, they decided to experiment with smaller characters in the mutant universe. And boom! came Deadpool which went on to break box office records and will now be getting a sequel of its own.

deadpool-poster1Not just Deadpool, in 2014 Fox had declared that they will be coming up with a movie based on Gambit character who was earlier seen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film had originally been scheduled for release on 7 October, 2016, but Fox has canceled that release date for the film. Recently Fox announced some new release dates for two untitled Marvel films.

Fox announced release dates of 6 October, 2017 and 12 January, 2018 for untitled Marvel films. With Gambit being delayed due to change in director and the filming for it yet to start, seems like Channing Tatum fans will have to wait a bit more longer to see him dawn the charming master thief turned X-Man who possesses the mutant ability to charge inanimate objects with kinetic energy, causing them to explode. We can assume that 6 October, 2017 could be the new release date for it as the shoot of the movie is expected to start from March this year. As Fox has also given a go ahead for Deadpool’s sequel, 12 January, 2018 would be a realistic date for it’s release.

But that doesn’t restrict the two untitled Marvel movies to be for Deadpool and Gambit. It could also be for X-Men universe or perhaps a Fantastic Four movie. Apart from these two dates, 20th Century Fox has also moved up Alien: Covenant from 6 October, 2017 to 4 August, 2017, while giving Shane Black’s Predator remake a 2 March, 2018 date.

As for now, Marvel/Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit the screens on 27 May, 2016.
