EA confirms EA Montreal layoffs

Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that a number of people were laid off from its EA Montreal division in this week. The studio which came into existence in 2004 has worked on a number of games like SSX on Tour, Need for Speed: Nitro, and franchises like Boogie and Army of Two.

“We made a staffing change in our Montreal studio to align with our current development and service plans. A small number of employees were impacted, and we are working closely with each of them to ensure the best transition possible,” EA said in a statement to Gamasutra.

The layoffs have affected a number of mobile developers from EA Mobile in Montreal according to the report.

Also, according to Gamesindustry.biz, EA’s mobile development studio, Rocket Squid, may have been shut down recently, which also suggest that layoffs could have come from the mobile division.

Rocket Squid’s role at Montreal was to support EA’s mobile development through product development, platform conversion, appliances launches, integrations, live interview, quality assurance and certification.
