Now movie addicts don’t have to worry of visiting multiplexes or theatres to catch their share of an immersive sound experience, as entertainment enthusiasts will now be able to enjoy Dolby Atmos in their home theatres. You can get the 360 degree feel within the comfort of your homes. On 24 September, Dolby launched ‘Dolby Atmos for home’ along with its new office in India, which is equipped with state-of-art facilities and demo zones for each of their sound technologies.
“From past 20 years, we have been working very closely with Hindi cinema and we brought Dolby surround sound to India five years back. So, finally we have decided to set up our own subsidiary in India, expand our team and build operations in India with the goal to bring our latest innovation and best technologies. We also want to go beyond cinema, into broadcast television. We have worked very hard on content production, distribution and playback of that content to deliver enhanced entertainment experience to our customers,” said Dolby Laboratories India, country manager Pankaj Kedia.
Since its introduction in the cinema in 2012, Dolby Atmos has been embraced by all the major Hollywood studios, seven Academy Award winning directors, and 16 Academy Award winning sound mixers, among others.
In India several of DTH and cable operators are already using Dolby digital plus for HD services. “It’s like a de-facto when you think of HD channel and HD services. There are around 50 cinemas in India which have Dolby Atmos surround sound speakers. Recent movies like Mary Kom and Bang Bang have used Dolby Atmos to showcase better experience and sound quality,” added Dolby Laboratories India, Regional VP, APAC Mahesh Sundaram.
Manufacturers who have announced Dolby Atmos AV receivers or pre-processors include Denon, Integra, Marantz, Onkyo, Pioneer, Steinway Lyngdorf, Trinnov Audio, and Yamaha. Manufacturers developing Dolby Atmos enabled speakers and add-on modules include Atlantic Technology, Definitive Technology, KEF, Onkyo, Pioneer USA, Teufel, and Triad Speakers.
Onkyo also announced a Dolby Atmos equipped home theater in a box (HTIB) system. Silicon providers Analog Devices, Inc., Cirrus Logic, and Texas Instruments have developed chips to support Dolby Atmos home theater AV receivers and processors. Additional manufacturers who have committed to delivering future Dolby Atmos products include Datasat Digital Entertainment, Emotiva Audio Corp, Outlaw Audio, Storm Audio, and NHT (Now Hear This).
If your TV has HDMI 1.4 then you can play Atmos without any problem. “It’s been a great and exciting journey so far it’s fair to say, it has just began. It helps us showcase new innovations, to early adopters of technology in the Indian market. It provides our customers with flexible and scalable solutions for home environment and the experience can be as close to cinema,” ended Pankaj.
