Director behind ‘Hotel Transylvania’, Genndy Tartakovsky won’t be directing further sequels

Hotel Transylvania 2 which made a mind boggling performance bagging $90.5million till date at the U.S. box office is surely going to miss something in the future. The mastermind behind the hit movies, Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2, Director Genndy Tartakovsky has declared that he will not be directing for further sequels of this franchise in future.

With Adam Sandler’s voice for Count Dracula and Selena Gomez for Mavis and screen writers Robert Smigel and Adam, Hotel Transylvania 2 has marvelled the audience since 25 September, 2015 grabbing a second place behind the launch of Ridley Scott’s-The Martian. Director Tartakovsky, the creative mind who made Dexter’s Laboratory and Popeye, is quite happy with the response it has garnered but does not plan to continue working further.

What raises an eyebrow is the question that why does the director whose animated monster movie which has broken the September opening weekend record and is expected to get a sequel Hotel Transylvania 3, not want to work on another hit? Bearing the future of the animated series and his own aspirations he revealed, “Hotel Transylvania 3 is going to happen without me. Two is enough. I have a lot of other ideas, and I kind of have to express them and have them come out.”

It is possible that the director has experienced some creative issues with Sony Pictures Animation which has fuelled his decision. Or maybe the director wants to focus on something different which has been on his mind for long; a dream to be fulfilled. He has portrayed his extensive creativity with a complete story in Hotel Transylvania 2 but he has few other stories in mind which are incomplete and wants to give a fair chance to those ideas.

Some of these ideas include the final Samurai Jack story in order to give a complete ending to the Samurai series that everyone loved and wanted to see more. After having worked on feature projects, Tartakovsky seems quite keen on returning to television as he told comicbook.com, “I think through the years, after we finished Jack, almost every year it seems like Samurai Jack has gotten more and more popular and more and more people have seen it. I feel like it’s culminating to a fever pitch almost. I feel like it’s time to maybe finish the story.” We can surely hope for a Samurai Jack movie or a mini television series in future.

Further, Tartakovsky announced last year that he wants to direct his first original project titled- Can You Imagine? which is a spellbound journey of a boy’s imagination. So, with these ideas already in the pipeline Hotel Transylvania 3 may see some new minds ideating to keep up to the standard and level of response it has embarked. For now, we can hope for the best in the future from mastermind Genndy Tartakovsky and keep our fingers crossed!
