Animated movies can be far more engaging than regular ones. The reason being, the amount of freedom that the creators get while working on it. While most movie sequels in general relate to their predecessors in terms of storytelling and the mood overall, some movies seem to take a detour.
Such can be the case in Disney Pixar’s upcoming sequel, Cars 3. The immensely famous, kid-friendly franchise just dropped the first teaser-trailer for Cars 3 and things look pretty different and rather dark.
In the new 49 seconds video, we see Lightning McQueen, the star of the movie, voiced by Owen Wilson, suddenly going into a crash during a race. The heavy breathing in the background, the metal scraps and fire sparks rising add to the intensity of the mishap. Soon, some words surface in bold, “From this moment, everything will change.”
The description of the video reads, “Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!”
So, is Cars 3 taking a different path than the previous movies? It is hard to say, yet.
Directed by Brian Fee and produced by Kevin Reher, Cars 3 is slated to release sometime in 2017.
