A medley of past and present lights up ‘Gears Of War 4’ teaser trailer

Gears of War fans are surely rejoicing as Microsoft teased the fourth edition of their third person game series with a short trailer. The trailer was aired during Fear the Walking Dead‘s season two premiere and provides a past and present look at JD Fenix, son of soldier Marcus Fenix.

Set 25 years into the future from where the Gears of War trilogy had ended, the new trailer follows the protagonist – JD Fenix, as he takes up on his father’s legacy to find answers on the mysterious disappearances of his loved ones after a sinister attack on their village.

The trailer begins from where the trilogy ends off. Marcus and Anya can be seen in the serene past where little JD runs around ‘carefree and cheerful’. But the scene is soon intervened with disturbing flashes of the present, where JD faces a new threat, a new danger.

The trailer not only has some brilliant graphics, but the way scenes from the past and present are merged is almost surreal. The calm and joyous environment of JD’s childhood is wittily interspersed with eerie scenes of the present time where he faces a new enemy. This blend assists the upcoming edition to establish a link with the former one.

When it comes to a trailer, it cannot be complete without appropriate music. The Gears Of War 4 trailer reverberates with a gloomy version of Simon and Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence, made by the metal band ‘Disturbed’ that seems like a tribute to the Gears of War trailer that did a similar thing with Gary Jules’ cover of Mad World implanting that war on the planet Sera is a cyclical event.

Microsoft also released a new gameplay clip that shows the weapon’s unique “execution.” In this video, we see the campaign character Kait crush an enemy’s head with the weapon and then launch the lifeless body across the map, hinting the possibility that it may be possible to fling a corpse at enemies, too. In terms of location, this one is a dank looking industrial environment with a gray sky overhead.

Gears of War 4 is scheduled to launch on 11 October for Xbox, however entry tokens will be sent out by the publishers from 18 to 24 April and people who have played Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10 will be eligible for the giveaway. All Xbox Live Gold members will get access into the beta of the game from 25 April.

A PC version might also be on the line, but nothing is confirmed as of now.
