The wait is finally over! KRAFTON, the South Korean video game developer, announced that PUBG Mobile India has officially been renamed to BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA. In an official blogpost it is revealed that the game will offer a “world class AAA multiplayer gaming experience on mobile. BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA will release with an exclusive in-game events like outfits and features and will have its own esports ecosystem with tournaments and leagues. The game will launch as a free-to-play experience on mobile devices.” Krafton/PUBG regional head corporate development strategy Anuj Tandon tweeted:

Apparently BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA will offer a battle royale experience, and will have a period of pre-registration before the launch. The game will be available to play only in India. Side by side KRAFTON will also collaborate with partners to build an esports ecosystem while bringing in-game content regularly. They will be starting with a series of India specific in-game events at launch which will be announced later.

Earlier in September Ministry of Information banned PUBG Mobile India and 118 other mobile applications under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act on the grounds that they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order. Keeping this in mind, KRAFTON’s official release stated: “With privacy and data security being a top priority, KRAFTON will be working with partners, to ensure data protection and security, at each stage. This will ensure privacy rights are respected, and all data collection and storage will be in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in India and for players here.”
