Shortly after Square Enix announced a surprise upgrade for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, called Intergrade for PlayStation 5, the company dropped an even bigger surprise: a battle royale game set in the world of Final Fantasy 7.
Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier is coming to Android and iOS devices in 2021. The battle royale game will feature the kind of gunplay you’d expect from a multiplayer shooter, but The First Soldier ups the ante with magic spells, Final Fantasy summons, and Chocobos on the battlefield.
The last-person-standing multiplayer game is set in Midgar 30 years before the events of the original Final Fantasy 7.
As a SOLDIER candidate, players must make use of their abilities in “a battle for survival”. Players use various guns and powers in a setup that doesn’t look dissimilar to other popular battle royale games.
“Join the fray, lay waste to your foes, and climb the ranks,” the trailer says.
According to the first teaser trailer for Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, the Shinra Electric Company is looking to bolster its military forces and develops the Soldier program — then apparently puts them to the test in a big multiplayer fray, which is where The First Soldier comes in. The battle royale game is set before the events of Final Fantasy 7, Square Enix said in a news release.
Apart from that, Square Enix announced a second mobile game on Thursday called Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis.
Ever Crisis is a chapter-structured single-player game covering the whole of the FFVII timeline – including the events of the original game and the FFVII compilation titles.
