A remake of the cult 2012 game Lollipop Chainsaw, in which a cheerleader fights zombies while wearing her boyfriend’s severed head around her waist, is in development. The remake is due in 2023, but no platforms have been announced.
On Twitter, producer Yoshimi Yasuda announced the news. Yasuda said that the original development staff was working on the remake and that he had acquired the rights back from the game’s original Japanese publisher, Kadokawa Games. He added that the project has the support of the game’s Western publisher, Warner Bros.
Although Yasuda indicated that the remake will have a couple of significant differences, the game will attempt to recreate the original. The new game will have a more realistic approach to graphics because of the power of new-gen hardware. The revelation that the remake’s soundtrack, aside from a few licenced tracks, will feature entirely new music as opposed to the first game’s 16 licenced tunes.
Juliet Starling, an American cheerleader who comes from a line of zombie hunters, is the protagonist of Lollipop Chainsaw. In an effort to discover the cause of the outbreak at her high school, Juliet fights hordes of zombies with her trusty chainsaw and the assistance of her recently decapitated boyfriend, Nick. Even worse, Juliet’s birthday was completely overshadowed by the zombie outbreak.
The Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad director James Gunn co-wrote the storyline for Lollipop Chainsaw, which made the well-known cosplayer Jessica Nigri popular as the game’s official cosplayer for Juliet Starling.
