Every conference held on the Animation, VFX, Gaming vertical talks about how India being an IT superpower helps, both in the outsourcing space as well as in the technology space.
Of late there has been a spate of developments which prove that India being strong on IT and programming helps.
The latest news is that Bangalore based Game Development Company Raptor Entertainment has completed the development of its Game Engine called ‘XForce’ a next generation gaming engine which boasts of advanced features such as Shader 3.0 Support, Adaptive AI, Infinite Terrain Panning etc.
XForce is a generic engine and can be used to build a variety of game genres like Real-Time Strategy, First Person, Third Person and Racing Games. Speaking to Animation Xpress.com Raptor Entertainment COO Jayanth Kannan shared, “It’s great that we have our own Engine, since only 20% of the world’s game studios have their own, which make the other 80% odd dependant for their technology base. It’s also great that we have a 6+ years head-start when it comes to preparedness, learning curve & technology base that we have built so far. We now have a full function dev studio with know-how spanning through the entire spectrum in development.” he added.
Raptor Entertainment CEO Sandeep Kowdley shared, “We made a critical and important decision in differentiating ourselves to be a technically potent company at the right time at a period when most other Indian companies chose to focus on art/content creation. Now, having strong technical foundation we are now a unique company with complete all round development capabilities.”
Were there any plans to license the engine to developers? Jayanth replied “At present we are developing a couple of games ourselves. Once the games are released we shall license the Engine for other developers to work on.”
Raptor shall be making a presentation about their next generation gaming engine at the upcoming ABAI Fest 2006 to be held in Bangalore on Sunday 3 September 06.
