Over an hour of Rainbow Six: Parasite gameplay has been posted online after users live-streamed footage from Ubisoft’s private technical test.
It first emerged that Ubisoft was privately testing Parasite when imagery was spotted on the PlayStation Network last month. Ubisoft later confirmed the test was real and said it would share more details on the game in the near future. The gameplay, spotted by VGC, was streamed live on Facebook Gaming from someone who claimed to have recently received an invitation to play a Rainbow Six: Parasite technical test on PC. Clearly, they didn’t seem to take much notice of Ubisoft’s non-disclosure agreement. The same gameplay was subsequently uploaded to YouTube, although it is suspected that it’s not long for this world:
Parasite appears to feature many of the Operators from Siege, each of which has Speed and Armour ratings, as well as special abilities such as the ability to deploy decoy holograms, detect all moving enemies in the area or deploy a mounted LMG.
The footage is all tutorial, but it shows that the basics of Rainbow Six Siege gunplay and tools are present, including drones, barricades, and destructible walls, as well as six of its operators: Alibi, Lion, Vigil, Ela, Finka, and Tachanka. The enemies are called archaeans, which in reality are single-celled organisms able to survive in extreme environments, like hydrothermal vents. In Rainbow Six Parasite, archaeans are blue-green aliens with blades for arms and heads that glow when they’re alerted. At least, that seems to be the basic enemy, though there’s a variety of subtypes.
Rainbow Six: Parasite is a squad-based first-person shooter. From the leaked gameplay we see the tutorial or the “simulator” as it’s called. The player picks an operator to play with from a handful of options, messes about with their loadout (weapons have stats and attachments and all modern shooter cons), and then ventures out into the tutorial. The vibe here appears to be a creepy zombie shooter.
