Nintendo Direct June 2024: From ‘Metroid’ to ‘The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’, here are the major reveals

The Nintendo Direct June 2024 featured a wide variety of games coming to the Nintendo Switch systems in 2024 and beyond. In case you missed the event, in this article, we’ll go through every notable announcement from the Japanese giant’s latest game showcase including first party exclusives and third party titles alike.

Nintendo is a Japanese video game and console maker based in Kyoto with a portfolio of first party games such as the Mario series, Legend of Zelda series, Kirby and many more. It has launched several consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Gamecube among others.

Here are is every major title from the latest Nintendo event:

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

This upcoming title features the return of Samus Aranas, the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunter who is set to take on a brand new mission. It’s the latest entry in the Metroid Prime series, while the details on the game’s plot are pretty sparse, it currently has a release window of 2025.

Stray

The highly praised feline adventure is meowing its way to the Nintendo Switch. Players control a cute kitty who is stranded in a post apocalyptic cyberpunk city, players can jump across buildings, crawl vents and do everything a cat can to find their way out of the doomed city. The game also has a dedicated meow button. Stray pounces onto the Nintendo Switch this year. The game is already available on PS4/PS5 and PC as of now.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a high definition remaster of the cult classic Nintendo 3DS game of the same name. Play as Luigi, Mario’s beloved brother and muster the courage to explore creepy haunted mansions filled with quirky ghosts and other paranormal stuff. The game is one of the most requested ports by Switch players and features enhanced graphics and controls that build upon the original game.

Darkest Dungeon 2 

The popular dungeon crawling roguelike is back with a bigger and better sequel coming to Nintendo Switch. The game features 12 playable heroes which can be played across five unique campaigns, with each character featuring a unique story and challenges to conquer. The game has touchscreen controls, thematic modifiers and also features companion pets. Players can get the Oblivion Edition which also has the Binding Blade DLC included which expands the narrative of the game. Darkest Dungeon 2 will drop on Nintendo Switch on 15 July. The game is also available on PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

This game collection includes seven different games across the retro Marvel vs. Capcom franchise including X-Men vs. Street Fighter, X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 New Age of Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter and The Punisher. The game includes all the original playable characters and various enhancements like online functionality, a retro music player and one-button special moves. The game hits Nintendo Switch sometime this year and will also be available on PS4/PS5 and PC.

Mario and Luigi: Brothership

Mario and Luigi: Brothership is an all new RPG adventure in the Nintendo Franchise. Play as the titular mustachioed brothers and set sail to the Shipshape Island and explore the sprawling world of Concordia featuring tropical rainforests and bustling cities as you meet iconic characters from the Mario universe like Bowser and Princess Peach. Manage the brothership and go through obstacles and enemies together as the game launches on Nintendo Switch on 7 November.

Lego Horizon Adventures

Embark on a lighthearted Lego adventure inspired by the post-apocalyptic world inspired by the world of Horizon, a beloved Playstation series. Play as Aloy, voiced by Ashely Burch, in a world of tall mountains and robotic creatures, on a quest to save the world. The game has an isometric perspective and can be played cooperatively both locally and online. The game launches on Nintendo Switch this holiday season. The game will also launch on PS5 alongside the Switch release.

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD

One of the iconic Nintendo mascots, Donkey Kong is back, this time in a remaster of a beloved Nintendo 3DS and Wii title. Reclaim Donkey Kong’s beloved banana hoard from the Tiki Tak Tribe as you stomp obstacles, send mine carts flying and even ride Rambi the Rhino across a solo or co-op adventure. The game features 80 unique levels including the 2 Nintendo 3DS exclusive ones as Donkey Kong leaps onto the Nintendo Switch this 16 Jan 2025.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

The game features a brand new story, this time from the perspective of Zelda armed with her wisdom and courage to save the kingdom of Hyrule. Strange rifts have been appearing all over Hyrule leading to the disappearance of a lot of civilians including Link, the franchise’s main protagonist. Players team up with a mysterious fairy Tri, and use the power of the Tri-Rod to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. The game arrives exclusively on Nintendo Switch on 26 September.
