OTT giant Netflix has revealed that it is starting with ad-free games for mobile devices like phones and tablets. The benefit that Netflix is planning to offer to its users is that it will not cost any additional penny with the existing subscription.
Netflix has announced that it will be looking at gaming segment as a separate vertical and currently it is at its early stages, therefore, Netflix will initially focus on introducing the gaming platform on mobile devices only.
“We’re also in the early stages of further expanding into games, building on our earlier efforts around interactivity (example Black Mirror Bandersnatch) and our Stranger Things games. We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV,” says Netflix revealed at the Q2 investors result note.
As per the Q2 result, Netflix has 209 million pain users globally and these 209 million and counting Netflix subscribers will get access to the gaming segment without spending any penny. “Games will be included in members’ Netflix subscription at no additional cost similar to films and series. Initially, we’ll be primarily focused on games for mobile devices,” says Netflix.
The OTT giant will continue to invest in movies, series and believes that since they it’s already been a decade into original programming, the time is right to learn more about how Netflix’s members value games.
