‘Midnight Ghost Hunt’ announces haunting Halloween Beta weekend

Coffee Stain, publisher of Valheim, Deep Rock Galactic and Satisfactory, and Vaulted Sky Games announced the arrival of Midnight Ghost Hunt’s Halloween Beta weekend, taking place between 29 to 31 October, ahead of the game’s full launch in 2022.

Players brave enough to step into Midnight Ghost Hunt’s absurdly entertaining mix of boisterous hijinks and genuine jump scares can sign up for the game’s first ever closed beta now at the midnightghosthunt official site. To celebrate the launch of the closed beta, Coffee Stain Publishing and Vaulted Sky Games have revealed a brand new teaser trailer giving players a taste of what’s in store.

In Midnight Ghost Hunt, take control as either a hunter or a ghost in this chaotic 4v4 hide-and-seek game which brings a bold and thrilling new take on the prop hunt genre. Hunters must work together using an array of hi-tech gadgets and weapons to hunt down and destroy Ghosts as they attempt to conceal themselves around Midnight Ghost Hunt’s chilling maps. The Spectrophone, Radar and Pathfinder can detect ghostly presences, while a range of sledgehammers, harpoons, and salt-spewing shotguns can be utilised to destroy the Ghosts. Use the Vacuum to hoover up any spectral remains.

Ghost players possess seemingly innocuous objects in order to hide from the Hunters and bide their time until the witching hour. The spectres will want to keep moving to keep their ectoplasm buildup low or else risk being discovered by the Hunters. Ghosts also have the ability to claim supernatural powers, which include turning invisible, causing furniture to float, and conjuring a dangerous Ghostly miasma. Ghosts can even hide in plain sight by masquerading as a Hunter’s doppelgänger!

The hunters will desperately try to destroy every Ghost before the clock strikes midnight. If they fail, the tables turn, the Ghosts become supercharged and the hunters become the hunted. They must try to stay alive long enough for evac to arrive.

Midnight Ghost Hunt made waves at E3’s PC Gaming Show back in June 2019, where it debuted its first full trailer and partnership with Coffee Stain after a few work-in-progress clips racked up millions of views on Reddit in November 2018 and March 2019.

This February, Coffee Stain welcomed two studios on board to help Vaulted Sky meet the quickly growing expectations of the project. She Was Such A Good Horse is made up of industry veterans with years of experience from the likes of Avalanche Studios, Paradox Interactive, and Ubisoft Massive, while Ernst & Borg Studio will bring over their real-world architectural know-how to design Midnight Ghost Hunt’s imposing virtual environments. With the team hard at work on development through various Alphas since then, this long-anticipated slice of multiplayer mayhem is finally ready to burst onto the Halloween scene.

“We’re so excited for our biggest Midnight Ghost Hunt test yet, as it’s a passion project we’ve been working on for a long time. We’ve been hard at work making great new content and features that are ready for our first closed beta this Halloween weekend, and absolutely cannot wait to hear what everyone thinks as we prepare for launch in 2022,” said  Vaulted Sky Games game director Samuel Malone.

“We’re in love with Midnight Ghost Hunt, what it currently is and what it is yet to become. It’s an endless source of inspiration and the team has been working intensively on all the crucial aspects of making Midnight Ghost Hunt the multiplayer game we’ve always wanted to play. It’s absolutely delightful to look back on how well we’ve performed as a distributed team throughout the pandemic, and Sam has been leading us towards his vision with endless positivity. We’ve been having so much fun on our weekly playtests and we’re ecstatic to finally be able to share the latest features with our amazing fans!” said Coffee Stain Publishing executive producer Sebastian Badylak.
