Esports team GodLike Esports has announced it’s all female roster, GodLike Girls BGMI Roster, featuring top female gamers from all over India. The female roster will be managed by India’s leading sport management agency, Cornerstone Sport under its vertical Cornerstone Esports. The agency will be handling all brand and commercials engagements. There has been a significant surge in the number of female users in the gaming market, across the globe and in India, as several studies have also showcased.
The GodLike Girls BGMI Roster includes talented gamers like Astha Scar, Antra Tyagi, Khushveen ‘Rebel’ Kaur, Mannat ‘Evil’ Kudyar, Nancy ‘Clutchy’ Singh and Parul ‘Alpha’ Sharma. The women, ranging from age 15 to 28, hail from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, and have already established a name for themselves in the gaming circuits in the country and across the globe.
Talking about the announcement, Cornerstone Sport COO Jogesh Lulla said, “Representing female gamers is something that has always been part of our overall plan. We strongly believe that there doesn’t need to be a gender divide in esports and want to be instrumental in making that happen. Representing the “Godlike Girls BGMI Roster” is a perfect start for us in this endeavour and we are confident they are capable of taking on any male or female roster out there.”
GodLike Esports owner Chetan ‘Kronten’ Chandgude said, “We decided to pursue the decision to form a female BGMI roster after coming across astounding talent the female gamers in our country have. The increase in female gamers across different platforms has been something that has caught our eyes since a while, but we felt the time was right as the market currently presents enough sustainable opportunities for women to pursue gaming as career paths and for them to encourage more gender parity in the industry. This will be the first time an agency like Cornerstone Sport will be managing an All Girls BGMI roster and with this association we are looking forward to tap the untapped opportunities.”
Speaking on the female roster, GodLike Girls BGMI Roster leader Parul ‘Alpha’ Sharma said, “Getting the opportunity to be a part of India’s best esports team, GodLike, was an opportunity of a lifetime and something most of us never imagined when we started gaming. The gaming industry has come a long way from what it was, even just a few years ago, and I am happy to have contributed, even if in a small way, to create space for more female gamers to play for leisure or to pursue it professionally. We are excited with our association with one of the leading management agencies and we couldn’t ask for anything better than being managed by Cornerstone Sport.”
The announcement comes just as the Indian gaming industry has started to seriously consider female users and audiences and their impact on the industry. As per an InMobi report, which analysed usage patterns between January 2020 and January 2021, approximately 43 per cent of the mobile gaming audience in India comprised of women across diverse age groups. Several reports by other leading organisations have highlighted the fast-paced growth rate of women in gaming in India. As the esports industry in India continues on an upward trajectory, female gamers are touted to be the catalyst to taking it to the next level.
