Go on Board and CD Projekt Red join hands to bring ‘The Witcher: Old World’ board game

The Witcher franchise is expanding with a new board game from the team of Go on Board. The Witcher: Old World takes place long before the saga of Geralt of Rivia, and it’s being produced in partnership with CD Projekt Red. The project heads to Kickstarter in May, with delivery expected by April 2022. No price point has been announced. Those interested can sign up to be reminded once the crowdfunding campaign goes live.

According to Woźniak, the boardgame will expand the world history of Witcher-lore from CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher video game series, exploring a time when even more monsters and Witchers roamed the continent. “You begin the game as a freshly trained Witcher from one of the five competing schools. You’ll journey through a vast continent and explore different locations. You will learn your skill to improve your character, you’ll brew portions, you’ll fight plenty of monsters and even battle other witches in tower brawls,” said Go On Board co-founder Łukasz Woźniak .

Players will have the opportunity to control Witchers of the School of Wolf, Viper, Cat, or Griffin. These young men have recently completed their training and succeeded in the Trial of the Grasses to become full-fledged Witchers. It’s up to the player to see if they succeed or fail.

While fighting monsters on The Path is the primary goal, the Witcher graduates may also find themselves facing off against other fighters. Witchers will have to face off for survival and defend their school’s honour.

Woźniak also shared that the gameplay for The Witcher: Old World is based around deck building, noting that your deck represents your health, how far you can travel and your combat abilities. “Through card synergy, you will be able to create powerful combos and also use your witcher school abilities to their full potential,” he continued. “And that’s what makes the combat in The Witcher: Old World so unique and exciting.”
