Animoca Brands’ game development subsidiary nWay announced the beta launch of Cosmic Bomber, its latest casual multiplayer action game inspired by the classic Bomberman title.

Cosmic Bomber is an action-maze game where players strategically place explosive magic balloons to outsmart and eliminate rival teams. Players have to navigate diverse blocks that unlock special items to claim victory while avoiding splash damage and being tagged by opponents.

The web3 title features player-versus-player (PvP) competitions, digital ownership of characters, and an economy that allows all users to earn, spend, and sell in-game assets. The title will also feature dynamic seasons that introduce new IPs and bring new characters and maps to the game’s universe.

Game developer nWay has partnered with Animoca Brands’ Mocaverse to launch the first season of the game within Mocaverse’s social gaming hub Cosmic Club. Mocaverse is a consumer network with an interconnected infrastructure layer of account, identity, and reputation systems. The beta of the game is available only to the 1.79 million Moca ID (a decentralised identity platform, that grants the user access to a host of web3 experiences) holders, who will be able to earn realm points (RP) and the loyalty points of the ID, by playing and competing in the inspired game. As part of Cosmic Club, players can spend RPs to enrol in special tournaments and compete for leaderboard rankings to win more RP rewards.

Mocaverse project lead Kenneth Shek said, “We’re incredibly excited to partner with nWay to launch the beta of Cosmic Bomber exclusively to our Mocaverse community. This game brings together the best elements of classic arcade action with modern innovations, creating an experience that is both nostalgic and refreshingly new. Cosmic Bomber will be a great addition to Cosmic Club and its goal to empower social interaction among Moca ID holders.”

Said nWay co-CEO Steve Kuroki, “Our goal was to create a game that’s both familiar and easy to enjoy. With strategic, casual-style gameplay and a playful aesthetic, Cosmic Bomber offers fun-filled competition with the chance to earn exciting rewards. We can’t wait for players to dive into this thrilling adventure and pop their way to the top.”

The team of nWay comprises developers and executives who have worked previously at Google, Tencent, Sony, Electronic Arts, Nintendo, LucasArts, Blizzard, Kabam, Nexon, and NCSoft. nWay was acquired by Animoca Brands back in 2019 to enter the competitive multiplayer gaming space. The company has also developed and published multiple AAA games on mobile and console, including Wreck League, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, and Power Rangers: Legacy Wars

While the beta of Cosmic Bomber is accessible only to Moca NFT and ID holders, the full game will be released to all players for free after the beta is concluded, without the need to own specific NFTs or fungible tokens.
