Epic Games is contemplating a Fortnite movie as a project for its entertainment division. As per The Independent, a Fortnite movie has “already been discussed” at Epic.
The site’s sources claim that Epic is exploring new ways to grow its brands at a time when its ambitions in the mobile games space are being restricted by its legal battles with Apple and Google.
Fortnite is an online video game developed by Epic Games and released in 2017. It is available in three distinct game mode versions that otherwise share the same general gameplay and game engine: Fortnite: Save the World, a cooperative hybrid-tower defense-shooter-survival game for up to four players to fight off zombie-like creatures and defend objects with traps and fortifications they can build.
The development surfaced that three top LucasFilm employees have joined Epic Games earlier this year. The movie studio’s former VP of physical production, Jason McGatlin is now the president of Epic’s special project division.
McGatlin was an executive producer on all of Disney’s Star Wars films. Other former LucasFilm employees include Lynn Bartsch, head of business affairs, and Chris Furia, VP of production finance. Epic Games apparently sees creating a Fortnite movie as a move to bolster its entertainment division.
Currently Fortnite as a game plays host to several popular characters from many movies and TV shows, and massive live-events. So far, Epic is yet to give an official statement regarding the Fortnite movie.
Fortnite is currently holding its Halloween-themed Fortnitemares 2021 event.
