With Zack Snyder’s Justice League set to release nearly a month from now, Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for the film. Coming to HBO Max on 18 March 2021, the highly anticipated trailer of Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League is everything that DC fans around the world could hope for.
Fans were already hyped for the upcoming four-hour HBO Max cut which revamps Snyder’s original vision from the 2017 version of the film. The nearly three-minute trailer opens with a narration from Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, who will also appear in the new version, warning of the battle about to come. We also catch a glimpse of Superman’s new look. And it was the final few seconds that sent viewers through the roof as we finally got the first look at Jared Leto’s return as the Joker.
Snyder’s cut was confirmed last year after a long campaign by the director’s fans, who decried the theatrical version released in 2017. Snyder had to leave the original film due to a family tragedy. Joss Whedon was then brought in by Warner Bros. to finish the post-production and do reshoots of a few scenes. After its release, fans criticized the contributions Whedon made to the movie and created a years-long internet campaign asking Warner Bros. to release Snyder’s original version.
Whedon’s light-hearted take on the heroes is clearly diminished in the trailer, as Snyder returns to the more ominous and serious tone of his original films. Though Zack Snyder’s Justice League is more about giving fans a glimpse of what could’ve been, there are sure to be plenty of storylines and plot points that the original film didn’t include.
The rest of the set-up in this new Justice League trailer is the same as the older movie. Affleck’s Bruce Wayne must corral a group of heroes to fight the impending threat of Steppenwolf. This time though we get a look at Darkseid himself, as Steppenwolf approaches him on their planet of Apokolips.
Here’s the official synopsis of Zack Snyder’s Justice League:
In Zack Snyder’s Justice League, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad, and Darkseid — and their dreadful intentions.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League premieres exclusively on HBO Max on 18 March 2021.
