Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has offered an update about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In an interview with WatchTime India, Cumberbatch revealed that the movie is in pre-production phase.
Fans of the surgeon-turned-Sorcerer Supreme have been desperate for a follow-up since the character was drafted into the MCU back in 2016.
It took less than a year for the studio to announce that one was in development, although things hit a snag when original director Scott Derrickson – who was set to return in the same capacity – stepped down due to “creative differences” earlier this year.
Cumberbatch also talked about some more of his upcoming projects. He said, “I’m in post-production with two films. One that is actually ready to come out, called The Courier and we are just trying to find the right time for it to be released. It’s the true life spy drama set in the Cold War about Oleg Penkovsky and Greville Wynn.”
Previous reports have said that the Doctor Strange sequel will film in London and at Pinewood Studios. Recently it was reported that ILM would be building a Stagecraft set (or Volume) at Pinewood UK, but that wouldn’t be done until March. It was believed that would be used for Doctor Strange, but if they begin filming the movie this month, it’s probably for something else.
