The 84th Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2011 was presented on Sunday, February 26, at the Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation was also televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
Gore Verbinski’s Rango took Best Animated Feature Film at the 84th Academy Awards, coming ahead of Alain Gagnol and Jean-Loup Felicioli’s A Cat in Paris, Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal’s Chico and Rita, Jennifer Yuh Nelson’s Kung Fu Panda 2, and Chris Miller’s Puss in Boots.
Hugo won the award for Best Visual Effects at the 84th Academy Awards, leaving behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Real Steel, Rise of the Planet of the Apes,andTransformers: Dark of the Moon.
William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg’s The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore won the award for Best Animated Short at the 84th Academy Awards, beating out Patrick Doyon’s Dimanche, Enrico Casarosa’s La Luna, Grant Orchard and Sue Goffe’s A Morning Stroll, and Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby’s Wild Life.
