NVIDIA expands its academic and university programme

Chitkara University selected as NVIDIA CUDA Teaching Center

NVIDIA today announced that it has recognized Chitkara University, Chandigarh as a CUDA Teaching Center (CTC)under the aegis of its Academic and University Programme, enabling the university to access cost-effective hardware to build state-of-the-art laboratories as well as the necessary technical support. As a CUDA Teaching Centre, the Chitkara University has received teaching kits, including textbooks, software licenses and NVIDIA CUDA architecture-enabled GPUs for teaching parallel computing and conducting lab sessions, as well as academic discounts for additional hardware, if required. Other benefits include exclusive events with key researchers and academics, a designated NVIDIA technical liaison, and access to specialized online training sessions.

NVIDIA has collaborated with Chitkara University since 2010, working closely to promote parallel computing using GPUs. NVIDIA worked closely with Chitkara University to educate engineers on CUDA through training programmes and national level workshops as well as leveraging the power of the GPUs for various research projects.

“NVIDIA has always been keen to partner with like-minded organisation for the proliferation of parallel computing. We recognise the commitment that Chitkara University has extended to creating a pool of talented engineers and researchers. By inducting Chitkara University as a CUDA Training Centre, we are cementing our association. We will continue to work closely to creating and nurturing synergistic partnerships to developing a strong ecosystem of parallel computing in India and enabling the growth of software developers, scientists and researchers in various engineering and scientific streams,” said Jaya Panvalkar, Site Leader – Pune Design Centre and Head – Academic Relationships, NVIDIA, India.

CUDA Teaching Centers are recognized institutions that have integrated GPU computing techniques into their mainstream computer science curriculumThe CUDA Teaching Center program is the first program of its kind to be developed and offered to universities and colleges by a hardware vendor. This program aims at advancing collaboration at institutions that are expanding the frontier of parallel computing. Today, more than 500 universities across the globe are currently teaching parallel programming using GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) based on NVIDIA CUDA architecture.

“One of the biggest challenges faced by any organization today is the extensive gap that exists between academic curriculum and the real practical challenges of India’s dynamic corporate environment. Identifying the need for skilled professional talent, NVIDIA has always believed in strengthening academic partnerships with educational and research institutes in order to empower students graduating each year with the knowledge and proficiency to understand the parallel processing power of GPU’s”, said Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, NVIDIA, India.

“Chitkara University believes in working out and delivering an Industry relevant curriculum which is why it is always eager to join hands with reputed organizations like NVIDIA. Because of this philosophy Chitkara has created a niche for itself in the field of professional higher education in Northern India. The support from NVIDIA would help enhance the levels of our teaching and research activities. This partnership will go a long way in ensuring that Chitkara students contribute to their respective organizations effectively from Day One” ,said Brig (Dr) R S Grewal, Vice Chancellor, Chitkara University.

Some of the other eminent Indian universities which are partnering with NVIDIA on the CTC Program are IISc, Bangalore, IIT Mumbai, IIT Madras, IIIT Bangalore, CDAC ACTS, Bangalore, Irma University Ahmedabad, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune, Sri Sathya Sai University, Prasanthinilayam, Jaypee University, Shimla and College of Engineering, Pune (COEP)
