The School of Computer Science from Faculty of Technology & Sciences of Lovely Professional University had organised a two-day Zonal round of International Robotics Challenge (IRC) Workshop. The program was organized by LPU, with the support of India’s premier leader in Robotics & Embeded Systems- Robosapiens Technology.
The workshop was conducted in consonance with 9 other zonal centers across India. The winners from each of the ten zonal centers will further compete for
the national level final at IIT Bombay TECHFEST, to be held on 3 – 5 January, 2013.Winners from here will be given golden opportunity to compete with other winners from across the globe. Similar workshops were also being conducted in 9 International Zonal Centers including Australia, USA, Thailand, Indonesia, UAE, Egypt, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Iran.
Mr Tarique Aziz & Mr Aman Gupta, an Experienced faculty from IIT Bombay & Robosapiens had specially visited LPU to guide and motivate the participating students. The participants to this were from the LPU Schools of Computer Science Engineering, Electronics & Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Many other institutes also participated in the event. The two days of the event saw a theoretical workshop followed by practical competitions among participants of twelve teams comprised of 5 members each.
Speaking to Animationxpress’ Ishpreet Chandock about the workshop, LPU Vice Chancellor, Dr Ramesh Kanwar expressed his gladness, “We are happy to note that our promising students availed of this international level opportunity. During the two day program, an approximated 3000 students and amateurs attended the program. By participating in the tough competition, they have expanded their horizons by understanding, designing and programming robot models to have first-hand experience of the robot world.”
“After showing their worth at the zonal level our students will compete at national and international level to further win laurels for their alma-mater.”
“The objective of organizing this workshop was to generate awareness amongst the students and other enthusiasts of robotics, about the evolving dimensions of the science; and bring to the latest developments in this field.”
Adding on the experience conducting the workshop he said “The experience has been phenomenal and increasingly rewarding. The success of the program, which was manifested by acute interest of the students in participating the event has compelled us to think to organize more such programs in future.”
“Educational institutes should organize more events like these, pertaining to emerging sciences. It is an investment in igniting the young minds about the new frontiers being conquered apropos high end technology.”
He also informed that the students, from the winning team and other eager ones, will be further prepared to participate in International Robot Olympiad (IRO) to be finally held in Malaysia.
