Neil Gaiman, creator and executive producer, along with a group of the show’s cast, shared the official trailer for Netflix’s upcoming supernatural thriller, The Sandman, during a live Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. A host of images and key art were also made available. The new series debuts globally 5 August on the streamer.
The panel included stars Tom Sturridge, Gwendoline Christie, Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Jenna Coleman, Vanesu Samunyai, Patton Oswalt, Gaiman, and Allan Heinberg.
Based on the award-winning DC comic series written by Gaiman, the show tells the story of when the Sandman, aka Dream (Sturridge) — the powerful cosmic being who controls all our dreams — is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for over a century, and he must journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos his absence has caused.
Gaiman serves as EP and co-writer of the series, which is being produced by Warner Bros. Television. Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy) serves as EP and showrunner. David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Terminator: Dark Fate, Foundation) serves as executive producer; Goyer and Heinberg are also co-writers on the project.
The series cast includes Howell-Baptiste as Death; Alexander Park as Desire; Donna Preston as Despair; Coleman as Johanna Constantine; Niamh Walsh as Young Ethel Cripps; Joely Richardson as Ethel Cripps; David Thewlis as John Dee; Kyo Ra as Rose Walker; Stephen Fry as Gilbert; Razane Jammal as Lyta Hall; Sandra James Young as Unity Kincaid; Christie as Lucifer; Sturridge as Dream; Acheampong as Lucienne; Holbrook as The Corinthian; Charles Dance as Roderick Burgess; Asim Chaudhry as Abel and Cain; and Oswalt as the voice of Matthew The Raven.
