The upcoming Moon Knight Annual #1 will include a crossover between Marvel’s Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night, the comic where the character debuted.
According to an announcement by Marvel, Jack Russell, also known as the Werewolf by Night, and Moon Knight will reunite in Moon Knight Annual #1.
The official synopsis of Moon Knight Annual #1 reads: In the Darkhold, there is a prophecy of how a god might die. Jack Russell, more familiar with that cursed tome than most, would like very much to kill a god and save his people, the people bound in servitude to the moon. But to fulfil that prophecy requires the blood of the Fist of Khonshu, and Moon Knight doesn’t bleed easily.
Moon Knight writer Jed MacKay explained, “It’s been great seeing people respond to our Moon Knight series, and it’s always a bit of a thrill to give folks even more- and Moon Knight Annual #1 was the place to revisit some old history. Moon Knight has changed a lot since he first did battle with the Werewolf by Night, but so has Jack Russell, and having the opportunity to see how these two interact now, all these years later, has been a lot of fun. And Jack isn’t the only player in Moon Knight‘s history who is turning up when Federico Sabbatini joins us for another adventure.”
Moon Knight first appeared in Werewolf by Night #32, created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin which was published in 1975. Moon Knight was first introduced as a mercenary on the hunt for the werewolf he’s been hired to find and kill. After realising that Russell is not as terrifying as he had been led to believe, Moon Knight makes an effort to rescue Russell from being imprisoned. Oscar Isaac played the role of the Moon Knight in a Disney+ television series. The Moon Knight character later appeared in several comic books and standalone series.
Moon Knight Annual #1 is authored by MacKay, Federico Sabbatini is the illustrator and Rod Reis is the cover artist. Marvel will release the first issue on 26 October 2022.
