After a year of rumours, it is now confirmed that Todd Phillips’ 2019 movie Joker is coming back with a sequel. Writer and director Phillips made the announcement via his official Instagram account by posting the cover of the script which reveals that the second movie’s name would be Joker: Folie à Deux.
Along with the script’s picture, Phillips has also shared a picture of Joaquin Phoenix, which means that in the sequel Phoenix would be reprising his role as the clown prince of crime. Apart from that, Scott Silver is also making a comeback to co-write the screenplay with Phillips.
As of now no plot details are made available to the audience, but the title gives some insight into what to expect from the film. Folie à Deux means a rare delusional disorder shared by two or more people with intimate emotional links. Harley Quinn is the character that has ties with Joker, and most fans and casual viewers are aware of it. It is assumed that Pillips might include Quinn in his movie.
Despite widespread scepticism about its message, Joker was well-received by fans and critics alike. The movie grossed just over $1 billion worldwide and received 11 Academy Award nominations. Phoenix also won his first Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role, while composer Hildur Gunadóttir won the Oscar for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score).
