“The Singing Telegram” an attempt to re-live the magic by Roy Gluzman

HD, LCD, 3D and other follies of modern age might have corrupted the Cinema, but  graphic novel still harbors some of that lost dark magic of classic movies, kegged with vintage aroma! .”The Singing Telegram” revives the lost charm of old movies to a brief life of 113 pages joyful reading. It is a Mystery Graphic Novel with black and white illustration by Israeli author and illustrator Roy Gluzman. This yet unpublished book is targeted for Mystery lovers, nostalgia captives and escapism junkies. The story is about a girl Yvonne le Classa – a quite eccentric Broadway star wannabe who is doing her first assignment as a singing telegram. What starts as delivering a harmless birthday song for a famous architect, soon sets her on a hot murder hunt. Led by evidence she reaches a desolate new spa resort where she finds herself in a mysterious party, among a strange group of guests, where clues and conspiracies are revealed almost as rapidly as new corpses. All this accumulate to one night of hectic and unforgettable escapades that include: suicide, vandalism, insanity and some murders. Speaking to Animationxpress.com about the novel, Roy shared, “”The Singing Telegram” was created as an attempt to re-live the magic I felt as a child when I read my first Agatha Christie’s book. Work on it was done mainly during nights, after long work days. And maybe it had something to do with my choice to form the book in the style of a dark classic movie. In the illustrations and the characters design I have tried to recreate a film-noir atmosphere, and in the script I tried to follow the example of The Marx Brothers quick and witty dialogues. I hoped all of these put together will combine into an amusing reading material.”

Apart from entertainment, the book aims to encourage the reader to stay true to oneself – no matter how strange he might seem, or how extreme the circumstances might be – as endurance will always prevail. Strong men, deadly women, thick plot and mind-boggling conversations are all included! Roy started his career as a writer and an animator at a very early age, with a daily animated tidbit on national Israeli TV at the age of 13. Later, After finishing his high school studies he won first prize at a short film contest, and set-out to the world eager to gain whatever work experience he could as an artist and a writer. As a freelance graphic artist he has illustrated several study books, multimedia programs, image and advertisement films. He has also written and produced two short underground animation series to Channel 2 of the Israeli television and “The Comedy Channel” of the cabal TV, and had an unaccredited participation in several other TV shows. He had a monthly comics column on the 2 most famous local youth magazines, he held a multimedia exhibit in a famous art gallery as part of the “Jaffa Nights” art festival, and most notably he has founded a start-up company that created five animated computer games. All these games had a mystery plot fiber to them, and were prominent in their wild wacky humor. Unique in aiming specially for the local Israeli market, the games were very well received and self generated their own fan club of several thousands.
