Dynamite has revealed new covers for Darkwing Duck #1 ahead of its January 2023 release. The series is written by Carlo Cid Lauro, a member of the renowned Arancia Studio of superstar Mirka Andolfo, and has art by Amanda Deibert. Artists such as David Nakayama, Mirka Andolfo, Lesley Li a.k.a. Leirix, Trish Forstner, Jacob Edgar, and Carlo Lauro are illustrating the comic.
On most of the covers, Darkwing Duck is pictured alone riding his purple motorcycle and perched on the ledges of skyscrapers. But he is also joined by Morgana Macawber, Megavolt, and his trusted sidekick Launchpad McQuack. The legendary adventures of Darkwing Duck will be reproduced in facsimile editions and graphic novels in addition to brand-new original stories. Fans and collectors of vintage Disney comics will soon be able to once again access the elusive 1991 limited series published by Disney Comics with contributions from John Blair Moore and others.
Darkwing Duck, a beloved character from Disney’s larger Donald Duck library, had its television debut in 1991 as a popular animated programme. Young and old viewers alike were enthralled by the adventures of Drake Mallard and his namesake superhero character throughout the course of 91 episodes. Favourite comic books were also backed by a number of video games and merchandise.
The synopsis of Darkwing Duck #1 reads: He is the terror that flaps in the night… He is the ferocious fowl who plucks the evil eye from the face of foul play. He is Darkwing Duck! By night he vigilantly defends his city of St. Canard from the dastardly, devilish demons who would wage wanton war with his trademark costume and gadgets, and lurks through the shadows, striking fear in the heart of the criminal underworld.
By day he’s known as the mild-mannered Drake Mallard, father to his adorable adopted daughter Gosalyn. Can Darkwing successfully juggle his two separate lives, all while looking incredibly cool and impossibly handsome? Readers will have to tune in on January 4 to find out!
